History of Balikpapan Refinery


The forerunner of the establishment of the Balikpapan Refinery was the first oil drilling event in Balikpapan by the Dutch East Indies Government on February 10, 1897. This historic event became the beginning of the establishment of Balikpapan City. The drilling of the first oil well, named the Mathilda Well, was carried out by Mathilda Corporation, a collaboration between J. H. Menten and Adams from Samuel & Co. The Balikpapan Refinery is the largest Oil Processing Refinery in Indonesia with a total capacity of 360 MBPOD.

Balikpapan Refinery has a total capacity of 360 MBPOD with product outputs of Solar, Premium, Pertalite, Pertadex, Avtur and Smooth Fluid.
