Pertamina Officially Launches New Product Diesel X, Low Sulfur Fuel
Jakarta, 30 January 2025 - Pertamina has officially launched an environmentally friendly fuel called Diesel X. Through the Subholding Refining & Petrochemical PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional KPI) Balongan Unit, Pertamina has again innovated Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel.
Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri said that the launch of Diesel X strengthens Pertamina's position as an energy BUMN that prioritizes innovation and sustainability, as well as part of supporting energy self-sufficiency in accordance with the Asta Cita of the government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
"The launch of Diesel X is an answer to the challenges in realizing energy resilience and self-sufficiency, where this product not only provides high performance but also prioritizes fuel efficiency and lower emissions," explained Simon.
Diesel X, continued Simon, is a form of Pertamina's response to global demands for cleaner energy. Diesel X comes with the latest technology that can reduce negative impacts on the environment and is the best solution for customers in the industrial sector that uses heavy vehicles such as in mining.
Simon appreciates all parties who have worked hard in developing the Diesel X product. "This product will not only provide short-term benefits, but will also contribute greatly to realizing Pertamina's vision to become a sustainable and innovative energy company," said Simon.
President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Taufik Aditiyawarman emphasized that Diesel X is a real manifestation of PT KPI's commitment to providing cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly energy for the community and industry in Indonesia.
"The Balongan Refinery has succeeded in improving the production process to successfully produce Diesel X, ensuring the best quality and performance for diesel-engined vehicles and other industrial sectors," said Taufik.
Diesel X, added Taufik, will provide great benefits, both in terms of engine performance, fuel efficiency, and reducing exhaust emissions.
Diesel X produced by the Balongan Refinery has a low sulfur content of <10 ppm. Currently, the Balongan Refinery's capacity to produce Diesel X reaches 200 thousand barrels per month and at the launch momentum of Diesel X, the first shipment of 52 thousand barrels will be made for the industrial sector, namely to PT Freeport Indonesia.
Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication Fadjar Djoko Santoso added that the Diesel X Innovation produced and managed by PT KPI is a form of effort towards energy independence in supporting energy self-sufficiency programmed by the government.
With EURO V standards, Diesel X is ideal for heavy equipment vehicles used in the mining industry. In addition, Diesel X also offers an increase in fuel efficiency of around 7%.
"This product is the result of the synergy of the Pertamina Group, the research was conducted at the Pertamina Research, Technology and Innovation Laboratory, the production is at the Pertamina International Refinery and then marketed through Pertamina Patra Niaga," continued Fadjar.
In addition, on the same occasion in January 2025, Pertamina also launched other products, namely BBM Diesel B40 and aviation fuel, Pertamina Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which is made from Used Cooking Oil (UCO) or used cooking oil.
