Supporting Government Policy, Kilang Pertamina Internasional Produces B40

Jakarta, 14 January 2025 - Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) as a Subholding Refining & Petrochemical supports the Government's program related to the implementation of diesel fuel (BBM) with a mixture of palm oil-based biodiesel fuel of 40 percent or B40 starting January 1, 2025.

The implementation of the B40 mandatory program is stated in the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) No. 341.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2024 concerning the Utilization of Biodiesel Type Biofuel as a Mixture of Diesel Fuel in the Framework of Financing by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency of 40 Percent.

KPI has started implementing the government's mandate for the 40% Biodiesel program or B40 as biofuel (BBN) to support energy self-sufficiency.

B40 is a mixture of CPO or palm oil-based biofuels, namely Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). FAME 40%, and 60% diesel fuel.

This step is in line with the Asta Cita agenda of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto regarding energy resilience and self-sufficiency, as well as the Government's target of achieving net zero emissions in 2060. The government has even prepared a plan to further increase it to B50 in 2026.

B40 is currently produced at the Plaju Refinery in South Sumatra and the Kasim Refinery in West Papua. The readiness of the facilities and infrastructure at these 2 refineries supports the implementation of the B40 production mandate.

Biosolar production has been implemented since the Biosolar B20 implementation program in January 2019, which has continued to increase its composition gradually to B30 in 2019, increasing again to B35 in 2023, and currently to B40 in early 2025.

B40 production from the Plaju Refinery is targeted at 119,240 KL per month while for the Kasim Refinery it is 15,898 KL per month. Today, KPI is carrying out the initial distribution of B40 Biosolar fuel produced by the Plaju Refinery in South Sumatra as much as 5,000 KL and the Kasim Refinery in Southwest Papua as much as 4,600 KL.

Kilang Pertamina Internasional President Director Taufik Aditiyawarman said that the refinery's readiness to produce B40 is a form of KPI's commitment to providing better energy from environmental, economic, social and sustainability aspects.

"The production of Biosolar B40 will certainly also be a contribution of KPI in achieving Net Zero Emission in 2060 or sooner, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals in ensuring affordable energy access and in the implementation of ESG," said Taufik.

For that, Taufik expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders and officers, for the support that has been given for the realization of the B40 product.
