Developing Sustainable Programs, Here is List of Pertamina Refinery Environmental Programs

Jakarta, 21 January 2025 – Environmental aspects are one of the focuses of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI). In addition to running a more environmentally friendly business process and developing environmentally friendly products, KPI also encourages a Social & Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program that focuses on environmental aspects.

"Running a more environmentally friendly business process is carried out by KPI by carrying out various innovations," said KPI Corporate Secretary Hermansyah Y Nasroen.

Several initiatives carried out by KPI, said Hermansyah, include using solar panels as an energy source in office and warehouse environments, synergizing with state-owned electricity service providers and replacing fuel from BBM with gas in the Refinery's utilities.

"The initiative to use solar panels and other renewable energy, we also encourage and introduce into the TJSL program that we are implementing," explained Hermansyah.

At the Dumai Refinery, a program for using New Renewable Energy (EBT) is implemented through the BIDUK program (Mother and Child Development in Improving Health Quality). This program focuses on assisting local communities to improve their quality of life through the use of renewable energy and an inclusive health approach.

"At the Cilacap Refinery, the program is implemented to foster energy independence for the Community through the Sinar Biru program. This program integrates renewable energy into an aquaculture system that helps improve the welfare of the surrounding community," explained Hermansyah.

In addition to the two operating units, KPI in the province of West Papua, through the Kasim Refinery, is in the spotlight with the "Independent Energy Village" program. This program has succeeded in providing access to environmentally friendly energy to remote communities, while empowering local women's groups through training and energy management.

In addition to focusing on the use of renewable energy, KPI also clearly Hermansyah runs various other TJSL programs with a focus on environmental aspects.

At the Dumai Refinery operating in Sei Pakning, KPI encourages community empowerment through an environmentally friendly peat bee cultivation program. This program supports the preservation of peat ecosystems while providing new economic opportunities for the local community.

Meanwhile, at the Plaju Refinery, KPI stands out with its water resource conservation program. "Through the initiative of managing water hyacinth into a product of economic value, this program not only addresses environmental problems, but also supports the economy of the community in Plaju District," explained Hermansyah.

In addition, through the Balikpapan Refinery, the PELITA (Integrated Environmental Management) program has succeeded in creating a waste management system that has a significant impact on the surrounding community, while the Balongan Refinery prioritizes an inclusive approach to environmental management.

"The CSR program that we run has received recognition at the Indonesia Green Awards (IGA) 2025, which was held by the LaTofi School of CSR some time ago. These programs are real proof of our commitment in running the CSR program that is not only oriented towards environmental sustainability, but also empowers the community around our operational areas. We believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility, and every initiative we run aims to create a real positive impact," concluded Hermansyah.

The Indonesia Green Awards (IGA) is an annual event that awards companies that have created sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, as well as providing direct benefits to the community around their operational areas. KPI received awards for various categories for superior CSR programs run in its operational units throughout Indonesia.
